July 23 Question 2: So how is bridge?

So far I feel pretty motivated about college in the fall, the bridge program is giving me the headstart that I need in my college career. My only downside is that I am not from the city and have to commute via train, but gotta do what you gotta do in a couple years I plan on living here so it should become easier. What are your ups and downs about bridge?

  1. My ups are that im happy that i'm going to Coulmbia. They have every thing i want here, for my major. The downs i have are, i have to wake up so early in the morning, take the train and then walk 20 mins. just to get here. I wouldn't be able this every day, it's a lot of walking. What do you think about comeing to Columbia?

  4. The ups about coming here is that it's in the city, it will help me to pursue what I want to do in my life and the people here. The only downs are waking up early to take the train.

  5. Well, I think that I am going to start with the downs. I feel that the down sides of the bridge program is that you can not miss a day or you are kicked out. The ups are I actually like the fact that there is work constantly, because it is preparing me for College. Or atleast I think that it is. Do you feel that this program is getting you ready for College, or do you think that it is a total waste of time.

  6. I'm so happy to be given a chance to go to Columbia. I been looking at this school seriously since freshman year in highschool. So a definate up is this program in general. Another upside would have to be the environment. I'm from a small town like an hour away from here and i hate the small rural atmosphere. i'm in love with the city. its exactly MY kind of environment. another up is my apartment im going to be staying in. NO PARENTS! haha. the downsides of the actual bridge program itself is that i dont get to stay in chicago. the train is boring. plus the people that come and sit down next to me are usually really weird and always fall asleep and snore. and waking up early to catch the train is a pain too. all summer i woke up no earlier than noon. now im up at 6 everyday to get to the city. but its going to be well worth it. oh and jlewis my parents are worry warts! i hate it!! but its whatever theyre just lookin out for their kids.

who all takes the train here everyday?
do u like it or hate it?

  7. My ups is that I wanted to stay close to home and be able to still go to a great college. I love that being here gave me both of those. But my downs agree with J because my parents are crazy worry warts. My mom and I are super close and the thought of us not talking everyday like seriously bothers her. I mean she is still trying to convince me to stay home but I'm not for it. I want to be on my own. I'm almost 19, I need to learn stand on my own two feet. Does anyone feel like going to college will help them mature?

  8. i love bridge because i wont be wasting my time at home and watchin t.v. Alot of people will come into the fall semester confused and may feel alone. I kind of hate that i didnt do what i was suppose to do to secure my admittance but its a blessing because i met alot of great teachers and alot of great students. ALTHOUGH WE HAVE NOT GAIN FULL ADMITTANCE, DO YOU THINK THAT YOU HAVE A HEADSTART OVER THOSE WHO DONT HAVE TO TAKE BRIDGE?

  10. exactly! the only down i have about this program is taking the train. and getting up so early to take it. i come all the way from kenosha WI and i have to catch the train in fox lake. my train leaves at 658am. and in kenosha...you HAVE to take your car everywhere cause not a lot is in walking distance...so having to walk so much and a lack of sleep is beginning to take a toll on my body...but i just need to learn how to balance it out. is anyone else changing their life styles because of this?

  11. I take the train. It's intreating to see the people on the train. The bad thing is, it's all ways the same people in the same car. It's hardly any body differnt.

  12. I'm really excited about starting at Columbia in the fall so I think the bridge program is really preparing me for that. The only downfall about the Bridge Program is the fact that were here half the day for the whole week. I think it should have been only two days out of the week. Anyone agree??

  13. i'm changing my life style for this. less partying and going out. more sleep. haha its horrible but you have to grow up sometime. i'd rather have this bridge program then come into columbia in the fall and be lost and confused.

  14. I'm super F-ing excited for Columbia, I've been wanting to go to this school since my freshman year in high school. I'm in love with this school. I had to fight and convince my parents for years and even after I graduated they still didn't want me here until a few months ago I finally convinced my mom which was enough for me.

  15. I hate taking the train. Sometimes there are some weird people. I agree with delaney its different to not be out as much but I guess it's all to prepare for the fall.

  16. It seems like i am the only person who really doesnt care about the school being over the summer. i chill down here after school with the kids who stay on dorms.I dont live far from school but it breaks me out of my shell to chill with some people i would never talked to before columbia. HAS ANYONE FOUND SOMEBODY WHO THEY CAN KICK IT WITH EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS YOU ALL ARE EXACT OPPOSITES?

  17. When I first moved to Chicago, I was like, "Wait, it's going to take me an hour to get anywhere I want?" I wasn't very happy about the public transit. Now, I don't mind AS much because I get so much reading done while I'm on the train. There aren't very many slots in my life where I have nothing to do, so I appreciate having that time on the train.

I just got a bike in Chicago, and I love riding around the city. It's faster than the trains and buses. Do any of you have a bike or like biking?

  19. Over all I'm excited about being here, because this is what I always wanted. My downfall is that I dont get much sleep. I wish that the day had more hours, because I don't always have enough time to do everything I want to do. If you could change one thing about the present, what would it be?

  20. Ma mom doesnt care. She'll tell me to get on the train in a minute to go somewhere. as long as i'm not asking to use her car. Does anyone feel like they depend on their parents for transportation alittle to much.

  21. i use to really depend on my parents for transportation then i got a car and depended on them to fill my gas tank. then i got a job and bought a sick car and fill my own tank. i barely ever see my parents anyways. i never stay at home. haha what teenage wants to chill around their parents? honestly
