July 28th. What do you feel about the Program.

When I got info about the Bridge Program in the mail I was like, what the heck is this? After I read it, it sounded pretty cool. There are not a lot of colleges that have this kind of program. Everybody that I told I was going into this Bridge Program for my college, they were like I wish they had something like this when I was going to college. Does anybody else feel like this is a good thing they have for the students? What did their parents say about it?

  1. HELL YEAH!!! (Laugh out loud) But seriously I think the bridge program is awesome. It I think everyone who comes will have a small advantage over the rest of the freshman because we get an early feel for college.

  2. I recieved my letter in the mail about Bridge and I immediately didn't want to go. I thought it would reflect on how I didn't do my best in high school. But as I learned more about it and even on the first day of class I found that it wasn't to bash me on not doing well in school it was to help me do better. My parents thought it was a wonderful chance for me to do something education bound rather than socially bound. So overall I feel like being apart of the program was a good thing. What is the biggest thing you've learned so far?

  3. I feel like this is a good thing because I am getting some experience of college life before starting college. My parents are happy about it too. Anyone would have taken a program like this before college if they didn't have the bridge program?

  4. I think the Bridge Program should be an optional program offered at every college. I feel so ahead of the game. All of us already have a general idea of where things are at and most importantly, we all know eachother. This could not be any better. When I was at orientation yesterday, there was a lot of kids asking where they were going, what they were doing, and things like that, and I already felt like I knew what was happening. My parents at first thought that this Bridge Program was for kids who did bad in school. But really, for me at least, I wasn't into school because I was too busy making music and teaching music. I believe the reason why Columbia has this program is because there are a lot of kids who didn't take high school seriously because there wasn't a lot of creative space and this is the school to be at if you want to have creative space.

  5. Laurynas, I honestly wouldn't have because I happen to love my summer. And I wake up early to be here and by the time I arrive home I'm tired. I feel sometimes like I miss out on my summer's full experience because of this program but in the long run I know it will do me some good.

  6. I felt blessed and mad at the same time. Blessed, because they were giving me an oppurtunity to show Columbia, what I'm capable of, and that I'm serious about college. Mad, because I am a summer girl and had to stop doing many things, that I was involved in. Over all I was mad at myself. Because I messed up through out high school. I didn't do what I was supposed to. It's to late now because all I can do is look back. The bridge program is letting me reflect and retake my path. Did you take a different path in life, and what did you do to get back on track?

  7. i feel like it's a really good program and I am going to get a really good head start on college. I have a friend that got a 34 on his ACT went and jumped right into college without bridge or anything and dropped out after a semester. He was not ready and didn't know what to do with himself. He began to do drugs, didnt go to class and developed a fear of new people. People really dont realize but college is a life changing experience. People get relationships that last them a lifetime, and life experiences that last them a life time. I don;t know how my parents feel about being in the bridge program.Do you feel bad going to a school that does not even care about your ACT scores and not getting in fully and having to go to a program to help you,get into an Art school? My mother feels that Columbia is not a real school, even though she attended columbia herself.

  8. i think that we shouldn't have anymore posts related to bridge even though it is an easy topic to talk about. But we have done it so much. Does anyone else feel the same way?

  9. When I got my letter I didn't immediatly read into it. My auntie actually put me on to the bridge program. She let me know it had many benifits, and if I passed I would get accepted into Columbia college. So with that being said I made the descision to join the bridge program. I think its great for a school to give students a chance to get accepted into college.

  10. I don't really give a crap about the ACT's. There was a lot of teachers in my high school that said the ACT's where a wast of time. They said it really did't show what we know and learned.

  12. When I was first introduced to the bridge program I thought it was going to be a complete waste of time. Being here at the bridge program has somewhat changed my mind because it's a great way to learn your way around the school better and also get to know alot of new people who you are going to share this wonderful college experience with.

  13. i agree with Delaney! I think more high schools should be like Columbia. My highschool atleast had lots of creative things to get our minds working so you would see people that were head of the volley ball team (which we have won state like 10000 times) in the art stuidos painting grand masterpieces. Some adults just dont understand. I also thought and still think that the program is for kids that didnt do so hot in highschool. But i feel fortunate to have gotten this opportunity!

  16. 3. Questions must have some connection to Bridge. For example, they can deal with your books, your writing assignment, a lecture, a museum visit, a class discussion, etc.

  17. I always knew I wanted to stay in chicago. Columbia was my first choice and my parents last, it was also the last letter to come in the mail. I filled out applications, to DePaul,Loyola,UIC,and Roosevelt. I didnt get into a single one, i was getting more and more upset as they came. My boyfriend goes to DePaul so when i got that letter back i cried i felt like i had let him down. Later that week I got the letter back from Columbia and i read the first sentence which said unfortunately after i read unfortunately I immediately started crying. I called him and he said read the rest. I GOT IN! and i been loving it every since! However it wouldnt hurt columbia to lower their dorm fees some 11,000 to stay with 4 people with 1 bathroom and 1 kitchen is ALOT!

  18. I think that this is a good program for students. Not only did it give me another chance to go to college but it was really helpful because it made me become much more experienced with college. Instead of being really nervous in the fall I feel that this helped me to get used to how different college is. My parents didn't say much about it. They didn't really think it was a good or a bad thing. It was more of an opportunity for me to prove my ablities to my parents.

  19. My parents were extrememely happy that i was being given a second chance to actually prove myself self academically. At first i thought of it as a summer school type of deal where it was like" Although you graduated highschool, you kind of flunked at life". However i am blessed that we we have this type of program that can get us on the right track for college.

  20. I think there is enough going on in class as far as the books we read and discussions we have that we don't have to keep answering how we feel about Bridge and what is the best part about it. Change it up please.

  21. I feel the same way about this program, sort-of. When My mother found out that I had to go to this program, she got mad at me and told me that I should have done what i was supposed to do in High School and I would not have had to come to this program. I still am glad that they have it thought, becuase if they didn't I probably would not be in a College now. Or atleast on the path to being in one. And I am totally greatful for this oppurtunity. Has anyone else had the same experience as me with their parents about this bridge program?

  22. Jay my mom found it to be a good experience. Even though if we had done what we were supposed to do then we would probably be enjoying more of the late sleep and summer fun. But the way my mom goes about it is she sees it as a step stool to getting ready for college experience. Everyone else will be looking lost and extra overwhelmed, we'll be calm and collected.
